Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
The latest endeavour by James Lynch, founder (with his wife, Sian Tucker) of the hip, sustainable fforest farm retreat, this maritime-themed hotel is set across two Grade II listed warehouses on the Teifi estuary waterfront. Named after the brig that set sail from here in 1819 to establish a settlement in New Brunswick, it has 12 bedrooms on the second, third and top floors (no lift). Designed by Lynch, they are so convincingly styled on a captain’s cabin that you could fancy you hear the creak of the masts above. Small casement windows are set deep in stone walls lined with reclaimed wood; floors are made of oak. All have custom-built furniture, Melin Teifi wool blankets, bespoke textiles, Aesop toiletries. You can have coffee and cake or get three sheets to the wind on craft beers and artisan cocktails in the ground-floor bar and café. A smorgasbord-style breakfast of charcuterie, cheese, smoked fish, eggs, rye bread, granola, yoghurts and fruit is served in the residents’ lounge. Cross the bridge for woodfired pizzas at sister venture Pizzatipi.
