The Good Hotel Guide is the leading independent guide to hotels in Great Britain & Ireland, and also covers parts of Continental Europe. The Guide was first published in 1978. It is written for the reader seeking impartial advice on finding a good place to stay. Hotels cannot buy their way into the Guide. The editors and inspectors do not accept free hospitality on their anonymous visits to hotels. All hotels in the Guide receive a free basic listing. A fee is charged for a full web entry.

Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
A guest returning to this ever-popular hotel found standards “as high as ever”. The “hands-on owner”, Philippe Gorczynski (an expert on the battles and campaigns of the First World War), is praised. “Courtesy and service are the rule,” was another comment. Bicycles are provided, free, and Internet access is available. The white-fronted building is shielded from the road by its large garden, “peaceful apart from birdsong”. Many bedrooms (styles range from Louis XV to contemporary) overlook garden or drive. “Ours opened on to a small private patio.” The “lovely” breakfast, with “first-class preserves”, is in an airy room facing the garden. In the restaurant, the chef provides “good, simple, food (we particularly liked his onion soup) with reasonably priced wines”. On his days off, try Chez Dan nearby. In this interesting old town the church of St-Géry has a fine La Mise au tombeau by Rubens.
