Found “outstanding” by a regular correspondent, this auberge, in a medieval village high in the Cévennes, is run with brio by Pierrette Agulhon, the “hands-on” granddaughter of the founder. “She and her staff looked after us splendidly,” say visitors. Earlier praise: “Excellent housekeeping.” “Madame”s welcome was warm, our bedrooms were delightful: each had a balcony looking down over the village.” “The bar/lounge, warm and comfortable, had plenty of newspapers, guides, etc” (also deep leather armchairs, a fire on chilly days). There is a tiny shady garden “where it is bliss to sit after a day”s walking”. Some bedrooms are fair-sized, some very small, “with minute bathroom”. Mme Agulhon “is a trained sommelier”; her wine list “is well chosen, at fair prices”. Around are orchards and vineyards; the Tarn is 200 metres away.
