Much loved by Guide readers, the Bernard family”s farm guest house (Logis de France) has a pleasant rural setting near Boulogne and Calais. “The accommodation and cooking continue to delight,” says one visitor. “A first-class stop-over,” was another comment. It is good for a family holiday, too, having a piano for guests” use, a half-wild garden, a Labrador, a courtyard with pond, ducks and geese, doves, kittens and much else (see below). Dinner, in two rustic dining rooms (one has a large open fire), might include soupe de poisson et sa rouille; cuisse de canard à la bière. Cheeses are made by two of the four sons of the owners, using milk from a nearby farm. Dogs have now been banned from the restaurant. Some bedrooms are in converted barns; the best are large, smart rather than rustic; others are “quaint and cosy”. Breakfast, in a “charming room”, is a generous buffet. The facade was renovated this year and there is a new terrace.
