Crooked Swan
Crewkerne, Somerset
Saved from decay, completely refurbished, fitted out with flair and a sense of fun, this Georgian coaching inn has bedrooms of great character and seriously good food.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
A once-handsome Georgian coaching inn was a bit of an ugly duckling when brothers Julian and Oliver Campbell stripped it down to the bones and refurbished it, filling it with an exuberant mix of antiques, upcycled and unlikely objets. It's all great fun, and some bedrooms are simply stunning. 'Hansom' has a fine four-poster, a vast bathroom with walk-in shower and roll-top bath. Vast 'Barrouche' has a 19th-century super-king bed, a copper bath, a planter that was a crib in an Italian palazzo in a past life. Swan in for a drink, or stay and eat from a menu that might include a really meaty mixed grill, pumpkin tortellini, the catch of the day with crevette bisque.
