A former sports bar and one-time Berni Inn, this handsome pub has been splendidly renovated in Art Deco style for Young’s, recapturing its 1920s glory days, when it housed a cocktail bar. Bedrooms range from truly ‘cosy’ to ’bigger boutique’, perhaps with free-standing bath, a fine view of the Guildhall opposite. Each is individually styled, but they all have a rainfall shower, a minibar and espresso machine, fresh milk, Bramley toiletries. The blue-panelled dining area is adorned with Deco-inspired artworks, vintage lamps, booths, leather chairs and central chandelier. All-day seasonal menus feature pub classics, day-boat fish, a seafood platter, maybe wild garlic and ricotta gnocchi, rolled breast of lamb, apricot and bean cassoulet, mint and capers.
