Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
In a conservation village on the shores of Strangford Lough, the largest sea lough in the British Isles, this 200-year-old inn underwent a £1 million lockdown makeover to bring ‘a touch of Mayfair’ to a thriving community hub. It’s a friendly, family-run gastropub, with rooms styled in coastal colours of blue, sand and coral, all with espresso machine, marble bathroom, Handmade Soap Company toiletries. A menu of pub classics is strong on fish (seafood chowder, cod and chips, monkfish curry), steaks from the Josper grill and plant-based options. Days can be spent spotting seals and porpoises, swimming off nearby beaches, or visiting Castle Ward, Games of Thrones’s Winterfell Castle.
