People travel from around the world to experience the old-world charms of the Gelletlie family's former coaching inn set in beautifully tended gardens and delightfully lost in time.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
The promises of ‘old world charm’ and ‘colour TV’ in every room are amply fulfilled at this much-loved 18th-century coaching inn, marking its centenary in the hands of the Hunter and Galletlie families. No Stiffkey Blue or Sulking Room Pink here (Farrow & Ball, weren't they a comedy duo?) Past guest Oliver Hardy probably sank into the same flowered fireside armchair; Bram Stoker may have teased a tune out of the piano, Seamus Heaney would have waxed lyrical. Take a cream tea in beautifully tended gardens bordered by the River Vartry, dine on duck liver pâté, Wicklow lamb with home-grown vegetables a poached pear, soak up the Irish hospitality and you will understand what brings fans from around the world.
