Many hotels have a swimming pool; now, here’s a swimming pool with a hotel. A Victorian lido, closed since 1990, left to rot and threatened with demolition, was rescued and reopened in 2008, after a three-year makeover, with a spa, poolside bar and glass-walled gallery restaurant. They serve breakfast, brunch, small plates and a Mediterranean-inspired menu of dishes such as wood-roast skate wing, tomato and langoustine butter, samphire, agretti, pink fir apple. Now the owners have splashed out on a Georgian townhouse with five chic, boutique-style bedrooms. All have restful décor, handmade beds and an espresso machine. A top-floor king and twin room share a bathroom and are let as a pair.
