Lough Bawn House

Verity Butterfield clearly loves to welcome guests to her loch-side Georgian house, with blazing fires, comfy sofas, good artworks, excellent breakfasts, and dinner by arrangement.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
A Georgian house passed down through seven generations overlooking Lough Bane, Verity Butterfield’s B&B is a very special place. It is set in 50 acres of parkland and approached by a tree-lined drive. All interiors are furnished in traditional style, with antiques, paintings, prints, cut flowers, roaring fires on chilly days. Three bedrooms – dual-aspect Teak and Copper Beech, with ensuite bathrooms, and the Chinese Room – have lough views; the Blue Room overlooks the gardens. All have handmade local toiletries. Verity is a welcoming hostess, greeting new arrivals with tea and cake. She ran her own catering company in Gloucestershire before inheriting the property, and at night, as peacocks strut by the window, guests can sit down to a meal she cooks with produce from the kitchen garden, polytunnel and local suppliers, organic where possible. A typical menu might include galette with wild mushroom and thyme, duck breast with herbs and lime, a berry tart or mousse. Vegans and vegetarians are happily accommodated with notice. Breakfast choices include kippers, blueberry pancakes, a full Irish with eggs from the very happy resident hens.
