Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
“A wonderful place, more guest house than hotel”, which offers “amazing value”. It is recommended by visitors who spent “nine memorable days”. Set in an orange grove, it stands on the banks of a fast-flowing river. The French owners, Mireille and Gérard Ollivier, “who have lived here for 20 years and know Turkey well”, run it in “very personal style”, helped by Navruz, who is Turkish. “They do everything themselves, and obviously enjoy their visitors.” The six bedrooms upstairs face mountains and orange groves. Dinner, served by candlelight under a pergola by the River Aksu, in the “beautiful” flower-filled garden, “was a highlight. Mireille and Navruz create an imaginative four-course meal: Turkish cuisine with French touches, relatively light and making good use of fresh local vegetables. There is an interesting list of Turkish wines, reasonably priced.” Breakfast “is another treat, Turkish-style, with fresh fruit, three kinds of home-made marmalade, freshly made bread and cake, etc. The French influence ensured that the coffee was good and fresh -– unusual in Turkey.” Finike, a five minute drive away, is a small Mediterranean town on a plain filled with orange and lemon trees. “It has escaped mass tourism, and has an authentic Turkish feel.” Travellers enjoy its marina and its lively Saturday market. The Olliviers, who both speak English, will arrange local excursions. (Christopher Beadle)
