The Old Deanery
Ripon, Yorkshire
Chris and Rebecca Layton have transformed this Jacobean deanery opposite the Cathedral into a wedding venue and personable restaurant with rooms, dog and family friendly by day, a gastronomic destination at night.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
You can enjoy a fine view of Ripon Cathedral, complete with full peal of bells on Sunday mornings, from this restaurant with rooms in a Jacobean deanery. Chris and Rebecca Layton acquired the hotel in 2021 after a lockdown closure, and have cleverly rung the changes, mixing original interiors with hand-picked finds from salvage yards and antique fairs, adding interest and a well-judged hint of shabby to chic. Standard, superior and four-poster bedrooms are spacious, each with a coffee machine and Molton Brown bath products. In the evening, chef Adam Jackson’s tasting menus are an 'unforgettable experience' and include dishes such as sea bass and jalepeno. Breakfast is scarcely less a work of art, with home-baked crumpets and pastries, home-cured fish, Yorkshire charcuterie, and the full English.
