Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
Once home to a James Bond stuntman, Elizabeth and Keith Holbrook’s Georgian mansion is now a glamorous wedding venue and classy owner-run B&B. It is so beautifully presented and glamorous, it’s hard to believe it was almost a wreck when they bought it in 2018. Bedrooms have a neutral palette, classic furniture, perhaps a chandelier. The smallest of the six, Little Nellie, is a salute to former owner Wing Commander Ken Wallis, James Bond stuntman and inventor of the ‘Little Nellie’ gyrocopter seen in the movie You Only Live Twice. The most expensive, the Wallis Suite, has a coffee machine, a roll-top bath and walk-in shower. 'Having attended a three-day sewing retreat, I was so impressed that I wanted to visit again with my husband,’ writes an admirer. Another returning visitor, who attended a ‘sumptuous’ wedding here, praises the ‘welcoming and helpful’ hosts, the ‘high standards and attention to detail’. Afternoon tea is served in the Green Room, opening out onto the patio. In the morning, ‘we were served hearty breakfasts and enjoyed a stroll around their woodland walk and extensive grounds' with their resident goats and ducks. (Rosemary McDonald, Pam Hartland)
