With shops, restaurants and entertainment on the doorstep, this dog-friendly hotel, set over the five floors of the 1850s Russell Building, is in a class of its own. Bedrooms have lofty ceilings, tall sash windows, bespoke oak furniture, super-king beds and rain-dance showers. Deluxe rooms also have a bath big enough for two. It’s the brainchild of former teacher Dave Brewitt, a little sister for his much-vaunted Hope Street Hotel. Although it has limited in-house facilities, you can breakfast on complimentary pastries in a lounge with installations by glass artist Katerina Christou. Prices are incredibly low for city chic at so central a location (check the website for special offers), and guests have discounted rates to use the Hope Street Spa.
