Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
As much restaurant with rooms as friendly local where you can enjoy a ploughman's with a pint of craft ale, this 18th-century village pub offers smart accommodation and cooking of a very high order. Chef-patron Alasdair Clifford draws on experience in Michelin-starred kitchens to create a locally sourced, seasonally changing menu of dishes such as roasted globe artichoke stuffed with green olives and basil, tomato ragù; chicken breast stuffed with wild garlic, confit leg tartlet, caramelised salsify, mushroom duxelles. Alasdair's wife, Victoria Collins, has brought a designer’s eye to the smart contemporary bedrooms. Housed in the old skittle alley, they have pleasing extras such as fresh flowers, homemade treats, an espresso machine and hand-made skincare products to really bowl you over.
