Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
In a small, attractive village ten minutes from Canterbury, this dog-friendly gastropub is owned by Josh De Haan, son of Saga billionaire philanthropist Roger De Haan, with whom he founded Folkestone restaurant Rocksalt. Four upstairs bedrooms, named after inspirational chefs and painted a fashionable grey, have a king-size bed, an espresso machine, an ensuite shower. Stein has patio doors to the sun terrace. The bar is shabby chic, with an open fire, settles, fleecy throws, bare floorboards, cosy nooks. Food is served throughout the pub, in the conservatory and alfresco, with views across fields. A menu of locally sourced ingredients mixes pub classics with dishes such as devilled Folkestone mackerel or cauliflower tikka masala.
