The Ferry House
Sheerness, Kent
On a remote corner of the Isle of Sheppey, this former inn on the Swale Estuary is a birdwatchers' paradise, with smart bedrooms and a waterside restaurant serving highly inventive dishes of locally farmed and foraged ingredients, with produce from the dynamic kitchen garden.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
Follow a four-mile rural road to a birdwatcher’s paradise and this 16th-century inn beside the Swale estuary on Harty island, linked by causeway to Sheppey. Owned since 2000 by an enterprising farming family, the pub has evolved into an extraordinary B&B, wedding venue and rustic restaurant. Bedrooms range from a small twin/double in the main house to spacious Coach House rooms that are 'large, comfortable, functional, classy', with maybe a four-poster, a separate lounge, a spa bath. In the beamed bar or on the waterside terrace, menus feature locally farmed fare and produce from the prolific kitchen garden, in original and 'out-of-this-world' dishes such as pheasant Wellington, duck and sage farce, beetroot, game jus. Vegans, give three days’ notice; you’ll be in clover. (Jade Butler)
