Chickens roam contentedly around Sarah and Jonathan Stamp’s Georgian farmhouse and adults-only B&B on the edge of the Wolds, with walking trails, tennis court and trout lake.‘Sarah was there to greet us as we pulled up, and showed us to our room,’ our inspectors report. Ground-floor Bull’s Box, in a converted stable, had ‘a soaring cross-barred ceiling with an effective fan’. It was ‘invitingly decorated in slightly Provencal style’, with a 6ft bed, good linen, comfy armchairs, a shower over a spa bath, and private furnished patio. There are two ‘lovely’ main-house rooms, one, pretty in pink toile, with distant views of Lincoln Cathedral. Breakfast at an ‘elegantly set’ communal table included a buffet with ‘a wonderful dish of the freshest berries’, a ‘beautifully cooked’ full English and full vegetarian, new-laid eggs, Grimsby smoked fish, home-made marmalade.‘Sarah is hard working but still finds time to chat. When we mentioned we were planning to drive the 14 miles to Lincoln she proffered a useful map of the city and recommended convenient parking.’ In short:‘truly a tasteful, relaxing, peaceful place; we would be happy to return'.
