The Good Hotel Guide is the leading independent guide to hotels in Great Britain & Ireland, and also covers parts of Continental Europe. The Guide was first published in 1978. It is written for the reader seeking impartial advice on finding a good place to stay. Hotels cannot buy their way into the Guide. The editors and inspectors do not accept free hospitality on their anonymous visits to hotels. All hotels in the Guide receive a free basic listing. A fee is charged for a full web entry.

Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
A hat trick for Longbow Venues, this stone-built hotel makes the Guide this year (see also The Ashford Arms and George at Hathersage), with its smart bedrooms named after the Australian cricket team who stayed here in 1937. They range from single/snug doubles with shower, via family rooms and junior suites to the Don Bradman Suite, with emperor bed and in-room bath. All have White Company toiletries and ground coffee. In the restaurant, with a glass wall and views over the Hope Valley, a wide-ranging menu includes sandwiches, burgers, and creative dishes such as mixed bean tomato cassolette: nori-wrapped monkfish, cod cheeks, caper and grapefruit beurre blanc, or venison ravioli, chorizo and sage sauce. There are good walks from the doorstep – just ask cocker spaniel George if you see him in the bar.
