The Red Lion Hotel
Bideford, Devon, United Kingdom
All bedrooms have a sea view at this hotel on the harbour of a stunningly picturesque, privately owned, car-free fishing village.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
So picturesque is this fishing village on a wooded hillside with its steep, car-free cobbled streets that they charge visitors to enter, but the price is included in the room rate at the 18th-century harbourside Red Lion. Bedrooms, in the main hotel and the adjacent Sail Loft, all have a sea view. They’re decorated in restful, nautical shades, with Toile de Jouy fabrics but no fancy extras, although one has a balcony. You can eat pizza or a burger in the Snug or the Harbour Bar. In the restaurant, the seasonally changing menu is sourced from the estate with locally landed crab and lobster, and includes dishes such as Thai green shellfish curry, grass-fed sirloin steak, feta cheese tartlet with wild garlic pesto.
