The Good Hotel Guide is the leading independent guide to hotels in Great Britain & Ireland, and also covers parts of Continental Europe. The Guide was first published in 1978. It is written for the reader seeking impartial advice on finding a good place to stay. Hotels cannot buy their way into the Guide. Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
'Hotel settings don't get much more spectacular than the Polurrian's, on the cliff edge overlooking its own beach,' writes a guide insider. The relaxed family and dog-friendly hotel makes the most of the coastal views. You first notice them through the spectacular glass windows in the bar and café, perfect for lazy summer days or storm watching in winter; sea vistas are also on show from some of the simple, contemporary bedrooms. A reader had 'massive sash windows' offsetting the watery views from their room, making up for the 'small but adequate' bathroom. You can eat informally in the Vista lounge on people-pleasing dishes including pizzas and panini, burgers, fish and chips. In the evening, dishes such as gurnard with leeks and curried seaweed butter, rump steak and sweet potato gnocchi are on offer in the restaurant. 'I couldn't fault the breakfast or dinner.' A free-and-easy ambience includes alfresco dining, cocktails and cream teas, spa treatments, a health club, swimming pools, a gym, hot tub and tennis court. There are water sports for the kids during the day and baby listening at night. The beach is a ten-minute walk away, and the South West Coast Path runs right by.
