In a ‘great location’ at the heart of the village, next to Corsham Court in its Capability Brown landscape, this dog-friendly former coaching inn has a 'friendly, casual atmosphere' and smart bedrooms, although public rooms could do with a spruce up. Our inspectors' room was 'a nice size and thoughtfully designed with lovely decor'. The spacious bathroom had a wonderful roll-top bath, a powerful walk-in shower, Bramley toiletries. Produce from the kitchen garden features in ‘nicely presented’ pub classics and less-standard dishes. However, apart from the parmesan fries, 'dinner was mediocre'. By contrast, breakfast was 'excellent', with ‘delicious homemade compote, croissants and light, fluffy muffins, excellent smashed avocado’.
