There is a convincing Gallic vibe about this friendly little restaurant serving retro bistro classics – perennial favourites such as French onion soup, chicken liver parfait, steak or moules frites, duck à l’orange. Bar Lotte, two doors down, has cocktails, sharing plates and more. Bedrooms are painted in soothing shades of rose and grey-blue, mixing contemporary style with the occasional well-judged antique. All have Bramley bath products, a king-size bed. Family rooms above Bar Lotte two doors along have additional twin beds and children’s story books. Breakfast, charged separately, includes barista coffees, a continental platter, fruit, homemade granola, smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, and croissants – naturellement.
