In the shadow of Stirling Castle, and overlooking a tree-lined square in the town's conservation area, this Victorian house offers boutique-style bedrooms and fine dining. Kari and Phillip Couser have created bedrooms with William Morris-designed wallpapers and period-style furnishings; superior rooms might have bay-window seating or a view towards the castle. Modern comforts include underfloor-heated bathrooms, Scottish mineral water, bathrobes and upmarket toiletries. In the orangery restaurant, dinner (served Wednesday to Saturday) offers dishes such as venison with tarragon boulangère; in-room picnics are also an option each night. Breakfast includes porridge, eggs Benedict and Scottish smoked salmon.
