Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
This formidable Elizabethan brick pile lies down a topiary-lined drive which leads through landscaped grounds. Built for Thomas Seckford, Elizabeth I’s lawyer, it is today a luxury spa hotel in the care of the Heritage Rocks Group. A wide choice of accommodation includes atmospheric main-house rooms with oak beams and antique four-poster; dog-friendly, smart contemporary Courtyard rooms; and the Lodge suite, sleeping four, with private garden. You can eat with dog in tow, in bar, lounge and alfresco, while in 1530 restaurant, menus include dishes such as halibut with mussels, caviar cream and feuille de bric, or perhaps Dedham Vale rib-eye steak. Rumours of ghosts and secret passageway add to the thrill.
