The Old Manse of Blair
Pitlochry, Perthshire
As quintessentially Scottish as the resident Highland cattle, Anne and Archie MacDonald's 18th-century manse has been beautifully restored, with fabulous rooms and suites in stables and cottage annexes, Scandi-style walled-garden rooms, and cooking of a high order in the restaurant.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
As quintessentially Scottish as the resident Highland cattle, Anne and Archie MacDonald's 18th-century stone manse has been beautifully restored. The former Highland Railway Company's HQ now has fabulously stylish, characterful, well-appointed rooms and suites spread around the mansion, stables and railway cottage, while Scandi-style walled garden rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and a private terrace. Luxury toiletries and an espresso machine are standard. Inventive small plates are served in the whisky lounge, while in the restaurant, locally sourced menus include dishes such as venison with raspberry jus; Scrabster cod mosaic, seaweed butter emulsion, parsley oil. Country sports and whisky tastings are among numerous diversions on offer, so bide a wee.
